The coolest apps of all that I’ve discovered on the app store has to be the LogMeIn.com client for the iPhone. It basically allows you to access another computer in your LogMeIn account over the Internet by some insane technology, and you can use your computer directly from your phone! That’s ultra amazing, and I was totally blown away by the speed with which you can control your computer.
Here’s a snapshot of the website which says that the app is totally for free, and in this free version out can do just about everything like file sharing or direct computer control. The pro version gives other benefits, but I didn’t find any of them very top requirement material.
In order for this to work, you need to have the free client installed on the computer as well. Once you’ve done that, you will be able to either browse the computer files entirely via your phone, or access the entire computer desktop. Here’s a couple of snaps from my computer folder structure which is very easy to navigate.
The last picture shows how you can also retrieve files from your computer hard disk via the Internet over to your iPhone. Totally neat.
As for desktop sharing, the only limitation is the lack of a proper keyboard and a small iPhone screen, otherwise it’s pretty smooth if you want to work on your computer on the go.
I was able to work normally and even work on my document files using the standard qwerty keyboard input.
Overall it’s an awesome application and highly recommended, especially if you don’t want to take all your hardware wherever you go. Good for me since I often gave to access data from remote locations, and with the added functionality of retrieving files and stuff this is a totally new definition of mobile computing.
